President Prabowo inaugurates new counter-terrorism agency head

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Police Commissioner General Eddy Hartono as the new head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta

Hartono, who replaced Police Commissioner General Rycko Amelza Dahniel, was inaugurated as per Presidential Decree Number 117/TPA of 2025 on the Dismissal and Appointment of High-Ranking Officials within the BNPT.

The new BNPT head was inaugurated together with several other new state officials, including Police Inspector General Suyudi Ario Seto, who was inaugurated as the new head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).

At the palace, President Prabowo guided Hartono in taking the oath of office as the new BNPT head.

"I pledge that I will be loyal to the 1945 Constitution and carry out all applicable laws for the sake of my devotion and service to the nation and country," Hartono recited.

Following the oath-taking, the BNPT head and President Prabowo Subianto signed the official report of inauguration.

On Monday morning, President Prabowo Subianto also inaugurated several new ambassadors, including Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo as the Indonesian Ambassador to the United States and Judha Nugraha as the Indonesian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

In addition to the president, the event was attended by the Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and several Red and White Cabinet ministers, including Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, and Culture Minister Fadli Zon.

Government backs Indonesian nurses to meet Japan's high demand

Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding paid a working visit to Elizabeth Elderly Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday to observe the conditions of Indonesian workers employed in the health sector.

“Our visit here is to better understand the conditions and how hospitals like Elizabeth operate,” Karding said during the visit, according to a press release from the Ministry of P2MI (KP2MI).

Karding noted that Japan faces a significant shortage of health workers to support elderly care services and hospitals.

“Indonesia will likely send more nurses to Japan because there is strong demand from the Japanese government,” he said.

He emphasized that Indonesia is prepared to meet this demand by providing competent nurses who meet international standards.

“That is why we need to understand local conditions, practices, and culture in Japan,” he explained.

Karding also stressed the importance of ensuring that Indonesian workers in Japan are well-protected, comfortable, and satisfied with their working conditions.

He added that the government would continue to strengthen nurse training to prepare them for global competition, including through vocational programs and Migrant Classes.

“We will provide the best nurses. Hopefully, Elizabeth Hospital will continue to welcome nurses from Indonesia,” Karding said.

During the visit, the minister also introduced the government’s subsidized housing program for migrant workers.

“There are subsidized housing facilities available from the government. You can register, pay affordable installments, and have them built anywhere, not just in Jakarta,” he explained.

The government hopes the program will help migrant workers secure permanent housing while serving as recognition of their contributions.

The P2MI delegation carried out a working visit to Japan from August 19 to 26 to optimize placement management and strengthen the protection and empowerment of Indonesian migrant workers.

During the mission, the delegation also met with several strategic authorities to discuss key issues concerning Indonesian workers, both those already employed in Japan and those in the placement process.

In addition to visiting Miyagi Prefecture, the delegation held meetings with the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Minister of Justice Keisuke Suzuki, the Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and local business leaders.

Dorgu reveals frosty warning Cunha gave him upon Man Utd arrival

 WHAT HAPPENED?

United's Dorgu came up against Cunha when the latter was still playing for Wolves last season, with the Denmark defender fouling the Brazilian forward in that meeting. When he signed for the Red Devils, the former Atletico Madrid man warned the wing-back "not to kick him in training". Now, however, they appear to be on good terms.

WHAT DORGU SAID

He told BBC Sport: "I played against him [Cunha] and he had me once, when I got a yellow card. When he came he was like 'don't kick me in training'. He is a really public guy. He talks a lot and he's really funny - he's trying to engage with everyone so it's easier to talk with him because he has a lot of energy. He's really good at driving with the ball and getting past players. I feel my runs will help him to get more space to play. Obviously, it's not only on the left side, we need to attack on both, but we do need to connect well."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

United will need to get the very best out of Cunha and Dorgu this season as Ruben Amorim's team try to banish the demons of the 2024-25 campaign. But after a relatively slow start which has yielded one point from a possible six so far this term, there is work to do.

WHAT NEXT?

Dorgu and Cunha will hope United can claim their first win this season when they travel to League Two side Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Then, on Saturday, they host Burnley in the Premier League.

Meet the Man United nepo babies hoping to follow in their famous fathers' footsteps

Wayne Rooney's son Kai is a young man on the rise.

The 15-year-old made headlines after being named in Man United's Under-18 squad for the new season by his father's ex-teammate Darren Fletcher.

He has looked as though he belongs at that level after scoring in his side's 5-0 rout on Saturday, while fellow youngster JJ Gabriel also got on the scoresheet twice.

Capable of playing as a striker or out wide, Kai impressed for United at the Super Cup NI in Northern Ireland earlier this summer.

The oldest son of Wayne and Colleen Rooney, Kai was born in November 2009.

Following his call-up to Man United's U18 side, here is a rundown of the other youngsters who are following in their fathers' footsteps by forging a football career.

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr.

There is no better place to start than with the son of one of the finest players to have ever pulled on a Manchester United shirt in Cristiano Ronaldo.

His son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, 15, scored his first goal for Portugal's U15 side in May before celebrating in familiar fashion.

Playing for the national side's age-group outfit against Croatia, Ronaldo Jr broke the deadlock after just 11 minutes.

The goal came after the ball broke to him inside the 18-yard box, which he crashed home off the woodwork into the roof of the net.

He then paid homage to his father by whipping out the so-called 'SIU' celebration made famous by Ronaldo Sr.

Ronaldo Sr made his senior Portugal debut in 2003 at the age of 18, and looks set to play in his sixth World Cup next year.

Ronaldo Jr is currently part of the youth academy at Al-Nassr, the Saudi Pro League side where his father is still plying his trade at the age of 40.

Lorenz Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand cemented himself as a Manchester United club legend by winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008 as part of a trophy-laden spell under Sir Alex Ferguson where he won 14 major honours overall.

His son, Lorenz, 18, is primed to tread the same path after signing his first professional contract for Brighton this summer having joined the Seagulls at the age of 13.

Lorenz, who is a goalkeeper, spent two months on loan with Havant & Waterlooville during the 2024-25 campaign, having made his Premier League 2 debut in January this year.

He has also made 20 league appearances for Brighton's U18 side.

Jack and Tyler Fletcher

Like Rio Ferdinand, Scotland midfielder Darren Fletcher was also part of United's 2008 Champions League-winning side.

Making 342 appearances for United, Fletcher became a mainstay of the latter Ferguson years having come through the club's academy.

He then had spells at West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City before hanging up his boots in 2019 - and is now United's U18 coach.

His sons Jack and Tyler risked incurred the potential wrath of United supporters by becoming part of Man City's academy, before the pair made the move from Eastlands to Old Trafford in 2023 in a £1.25m double transfer in what is a record fee paid for British players under the age of 16.

While Jack has represented Scotland at U16 level, he would switch allegiances by going on to play for England's U16, U17 and U18 sides - while Tyler sided with his father by opting to play for Scotland.

Tyler Young

While he may not have a trophy cabinet as decorated as some of the other fathers whose sons feature on this list, Ashley Young did have the privilege of playing against his son.

Tyler Young, 19, came out on the losing side against Ashley, 40, when Everton beat Peterbrough United in the third round of the FA Cup in January.

The younger Young spent time on the books at Arsenal, Queens Park Rangers and MK Dons before moving to Peterbrough - where he was released at the end of last season without making an appearance for the club.

He has now been snapped up by Ipswich Town's U21 team, who won their opening game of the Premier League 2 season 4-3 against Derby County last Friday.

Shaqueel van Persie

Robin van Persie endeared himself to Manchester United fans by scoring 26 goals as the Red Devils regained the Premier League title in the 2012-13 season after signing him from rivals Arsenal.

However, he would not be at Old Trafford for much longer beyond then as he left the club in 2015 to join Turkish side Fenerbahce.

It was during van Persie's time with Arsenal that his son, Shaqueel, was born in London in November 2006.

Now 18, Shaqueel has returned to the Netherlands, where he is part of the academy at his father's boyhood club, Feyenoord, having previously spent time at Manchester CIty from 2015 to 2017.

While he is yet to make a senior appearance for the Eredivisie side, Shaqueel has played for the Netherlands at age-group level.

Donald Trump says ‘I am a war hero’ alongside Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu

Donald Trump has said that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a war hero, adding ‘and so am I.’

Mr Trump, who never fought in an armed conflict, said that he was a war hero for approving airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities — adding that his contemporary inc Netanyahu is a war hero ‘because we worked together.’

‘He’s a war hero. I guess I am too,’ Mr Trump told conservative radio host Mark Levin. ‘Nobody cares. But I am too. I mean, I sent those planes.’

An International Criminal Court warrant for Netanyahu’s arrest was issued last November for alleged war crimes in Gaza as a result of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, where approximately 60,000 Palestinians were killed and 1,200 Israelis died in the October 7 attacks.

The USA never signed the arrest warrant, so Netanyahu was able to visit Mr Trump earlier this year at the White House.

DONALD TRUMP’S MILITARY HISTORY

After going to military school as a teenager, Mr Trump avoided the draft to fight in Vietnam, receiving a deferment to fight in the war five times — four times for college, and a medical exemption he received for bone spurs when he was 22.

In 2015, he mocked former Presidential candidate John McCain, who was a POW during the Vietnam war, saying that Mr McCain was ‘not a war hero’ because ‘I like people who are not captured.’

The Atlantic also previously reported that Mr Trump disparaged dead service members, calling them ‘losers’ and ‘suckers’. Mr Trump vehemently denied these claims.

Elsewhere, Mr Trump previously met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss potential peace talks in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Mr Zelenskyy remembering the dress code this time around following a tense exchange in his previous meeting with Mr Trump and JD Vance.

Host of Real America’s Voice, Brian Glenn (who is dating congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene) had queried Zelensky’s attire back in February, and apologised for the ‘jibe’ in his most recent visit.

Glenn remarked: ‘First of all, President Zelensky, you look fabulous in that suit,’ with Trump quickly adding to the Ukrainian President: ‘I said the same thing. Remember? That’s the one that attacked you last time. See? Now he’s a nice guy.’

‘I remember,’ Zelensky replied, to which Glenn added: ‘I apologise to you. You look wonderful.’

However, Zelensky was ready for him and had the Oval Office in hysterics when he noticed that Glenn was wearing the same outfit as in February, remarking: ‘But you are in the same suit. You see, I changed, you are not’

Alan Shearer hits out at fan’s ‘stupid question’ over Alexander Isak transfer saga

Alan Shearer slams a fan's comparison between Alexander Isak's transfer saga and Trent Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid at the end of his contract, calling it a “stupid question”.

Newcastle United's striker released a statement on Tuesday (19 August), saying "when promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship cannot continue."

Liverpool made a £110m bid plus add-ons for the Swede earlier in August, which was rejected by Newcastle who are looking for closer to £150m.

Isak didn't attend the PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester on Tuesday night (19 August), despite being named in the Team of the Year.

Govt prepares program to tackle shadow economy, aid MSMEs

The government is preparing a Compliance Improvement Program (CIP) as part of its strategy to tackle the shadow economy, while ensuring that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are not unfairly burdened.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the government aims to design compliance measures for both the formal and informal sectors in a way that guarantees fair taxation for all taxpayers.

"Thus, we will not tax them beyond their capacity," she emphasized during a press conference on the 2026 Draft State Budget in Jakarta

For informal-sector MSMEs, the government will prioritize tax facilitation to encourage voluntary compliance.

Under Law No. 7 of 2021 on the Harmonization of Tax Regulations, MSMEs run by individual taxpayers enjoy tax-free income up to Rp500 million (around US$31,000). Meanwhile, those with annual turnover of up to Rp4.8 billion (around US$297,000) are subject to a final income tax of just 0.5 percent.

"We hope this will make MSMEs feel supported, because many perceive that all businesses, especially small ones, are burdened by taxes," Indrawati said.

She stressed that the CIP's primary focus is on curbing illegal activities in the shadow economy.

The 2026 Draft State Budget and Financial Notes (Book II) outline shadow economy eradication as one of the key strategies to boost state revenue.

This year, the government has already begun preparing the CIP, alongside studies on shadow economy mapping and intelligence analysis to strengthen law enforcement against high-risk taxpayers.

Other ongoing measures include integrating taxpayer identification numbers with national ID numbers and canvassing to collect data on unregistered taxpayers.

Indonesia's Independence Day spirit echoes in Palestine's struggle

Amidst the lively preparations for Indonesia's Independence Day celebrations, another nation is still struggling for its own independence — Palestine, whose bond with Indonesia has often been described as that of brotherhood.

History records that Palestine expressed solidarity with Indonesia even before Indonesia declared independence. Palestine recognized Indonesian sovereignty as early as 1944.

The Grand Mufti of Palestine, Sheikh Muhammad Amin Al-Husaini, together with a wealthy Palestinian merchant, Muhammad Ali Taher, broadcast their people’s support for Indonesian independence through Arabic-language radio and media on September 6, 1944.

Their support did not stop there; both men also actively lobbied sovereign states in the Middle East to recognize Indonesia’s independence.

This moral support became part of a global solidarity network that strengthened Indonesia’s diplomatic standing in the eyes of the world.

Now, it is Indonesia’s turn to uphold that historical memory.

The 1945 Constitution: A Binding Promise

The opening paragraph of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution declares: “Independence is the right of all nations, and therefore, colonialism must be abolished throughout the world, as it is inconsistent with humanity and justice.”

This principle applies not only to the Indonesian people but to all nations. It mandates that Indonesia adopt an anti-colonial stance in global affairs, including the case of Palestine.

The Preamble thus constitutes a moral promise, one that must be kept not only for Indonesia but also for other nations still shackled by colonialism. Palestine is the most concrete test of that promise.

This constitutional mandate provides both direction and a moral foundation for Indonesia’s role in the international community, which later evolved into the “free and active” foreign policy doctrine — a direct embodiment of the 1945 Constitution.

Indonesia's Support for Palestine

Indonesia’s consistent support for Palestine is a direct manifestation of this constitutional mandate. Palestine remains under occupation and has not yet achieved full sovereignty.

Indonesia has never established diplomatic relations with Israel, in line with its constitutional principles, and officially recognized the State of Palestine in 1988 after its declaration of independence.

Indonesia has consistently voiced the Palestinian cause in international forums such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Beyond diplomacy, Indonesia has contributed directly to humanitarian efforts.

The Indonesian Hospital in Gaza — built and managed by MER-C with donations from the Indonesian people — stands as a lasting symbol of solidarity. Indonesia also provides emergency aid including medicine, food, tents, and medical supplies.

Capacity building has been another focus: Indonesia offers scholarships for Palestinian students, while also engaging in development cooperation in health, education, and agriculture through the South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) program.

Most recently, the Indonesian government agreed to send 10,000 tons of rice aid to Gaza and allocate 10,000 to 20,000 hectares of land in Indonesia to be managed jointly with Palestine to ensure food security.

Independence for Palestine

Indonesia continues to call on the international community to realize a two-state solution based on international law, the 1967 borders, and relevant UN resolutions.

This call is reinforced by growing global public movements demanding that governments pressure Israel to halt its attacks on Gaza and recognize Palestine as a sovereign state.

Recognition of Palestine is not an act of charity but an obligation under international law. To recognize Palestine is to uphold justice, honor the UN Charter, and balance diplomatic relations.

Only with a strong and united Palestinian state, exercising full control over its land and institutions, can Israel be truly accepted as a peaceful neighbor in a secure Middle East.

Popular pressure and the intensifying Israeli attacks on Gaza have already led several Western nations — including Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia — to officially recognize the State of Palestine.

France followed by recognizing Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September 2025, with the United Kingdom declaring its intention to do so with certain conditions.

Like a domino effect, other countries — including Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand — are expected to recognize Palestine this September, though the United States has yet to follow.

Countries that have recognized or pledged to recognize Palestine are also pressing their regional associations to act. Ireland, for instance, has urged the European Union to suspend its agreements with Israel and take concrete steps to halt its military actions in Gaza.

France, in partnership with Saudi Arabia, recently convened an international conference to advance the two-state solution, reaffirming that it remains the only path toward sustainable peace and security.

Indonesia’s Role Going Forward

Indonesia can further support the Palestinian cause in global forums by intensifying diplomatic lobbying at the UN. This could include garnering support for a resolution modeled on UN General Assembly Resolution 377 A, “United for Peace,” as suggested by international relations scholar Hikmahanto Juwana.

The resolution provides a mechanism for the General Assembly to act when the UN Security Council fails to maintain international peace and security due to a lack of unanimity among its permanent members.

In such cases, the General Assembly may issue recommendations and even propose collective measures to restore peace.

Just as Palestine stood with Indonesia in 1944, when Indonesia’s independence was still a fragile dream, today it is Indonesia’s moral duty to stand firmly with Palestine.

As mandated by the 1945 Constitution: “Independence is the right of all nations, and colonialism must be abolished throughout the world.”

Wayne Rooney makes bold Man United prediction for new Premier League season

Wayne Rooney has given his predictions for the new Premier League season - and backed Manchester United to impress.

Red Devils legend Rooney, 39, is set to be more involved in the top flight in 2025-26 in a punditry role after he signed a £800,000-a-year deal to regularly appear on Match of the Day.

And, ahead of the new campaign beginning on Friday when Liverpool host Bournemouth, the 39-year-old was questioned on his thoughts.

Rooney picked Liverpool as his champions, and chose Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea to make up the top four.

But it was his shout for fifth place that made headlines, with the former striker choosing United despite their struggles last season.

Ruben Amorim's side endured their worst-ever Premier League campaign in 2024-25, finishing 15th after 18 defeats in 38 games.

They have since signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, while they went unbeaten throughout pre-season.

Explaining his feelings, Rooney told the BBC: 'I think they still need one or two more signings but I can see what Amorim is doing.

'It's looking better for Man United and I think they will sneak into the top five. I hope they do and you never know.'

Elsewhere, despite his United history, Rooney appeared to be favourable towards their arch-rivals Liverpool.

Alongside naming the Reds as his choice for the title, Rooney backed Mohamed Salah to win the fifth Golden Boot of his career.

Similarly, when asked for who he felt would be the most important signing in the league, he named new Liverpool right back Jeremie Frimpong.

The Netherlands international, who was part of Man City's academy as a youngster, joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen for £35million this summer, with the full back tasked with helping to fill the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure to Real Madrid.

Elsewhere, it was also in his breakout star prediction where the Liverpool trend was seen.'

Rooney tipped Reds wonderkid Rio Ngumoha, 16, in this regard, with the talented forward having moved to Anfield from Chelsea at the age of 15 last summer.

He was named on the bench for Liverpool's defeat by Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on Sunday, but he has played just one senior game for Arne Slot's side.

The final prediction Rooney gave was on which promoted team would perform the best out of Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland.

The 39-year-old backed Leeds, who have strengthened significantly this summer, to top the lot.

Saga ‘coming to a close’: Journo thinks Man Utd are on cusp of finalising deal that’ll leave INEOS relieved

Manchester United are hoping to have Jadon Sancho off their books once and for all when the window closes in just under three weeks’ time.

It’s been yet another summer-long saga involving Sancho after he played for United in pre-season last year before signing for Chelsea on loan on deadline day. The deal did involve a £25 million obligation for the Blues to activate upon the culmination of his spell, yet they instead decided to fork out a £5m penalty to send him back to Manchester in June.

Unlike this time last year, the club opted against utilising the winger in their 2025/2026 preparations. He formed one fifth of Ruben Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ at Old Trafford, along with Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and the Barcelona-bound Marcus Rashford.

Jadon Sancho: The state of play

Reports have suggested that Sancho has been on the radar of a host of sides in recent months, though none have gone as far as submitting a formal proposal or bid.

Juventus were thought to be the most keen on sanctioning his arrival, but they have since prioritised the signing of Ademola Lookman, leaving their Sancho interest on the back burner. In turn, United are likely starting to sweat over his situation, given he has now entered the final 12 months of his contract.

What one journalist is hearing about Sancho’s future

This week, journalist Sami Mokbel suggested that, despite the lack of noise surrounding the 25-year-old, he is still poised to sever his ties with United before the end of the month – presumably via a Serie A switch to the Allianz Stadium.

“I think his future is coming to a close,” Mokbel said of Sancho, via TuttoJuve. “He can leave Manchester United, that is no secret. Juventus is an option, but we are still wondering why an agreement has not been reached yet, given United’s willingness to sell.”

Infamous ex-Chelsea hooligan who 'relished violence' names 'biggest' rival firm

A notorious former Chelsea hooligan didn't hesitate when asked to name their biggest rival firm – before discussing the toughest away days he'd ever experienced. Jason Marriner, nicknamed The General, has been branded as the most notorious football hooligan in Britain.

He was a leading figure in the Chelsea Headhunters gang before his crew was famously infiltrated by journalist Donal MacIntrye for an undercover BBC documentary sting. Marriner was imprisoned for conspiracy and affray in 2000 with the judge determining that he was a "dangerous" man who "relished violence" and showed "little if any regard for other people or the law".

The Chelsea supporter, who now resides in Thailand and has published books about his hooliganism past, has spoken on the Liam Tuffs podcast.

Asked about the biggest rival of the Chelsea Headhunters, without missing a beat, Marriner said: "Tottenham, you know, without a doubt." Responding, Liam asked: "Were they the toughest fights as well?"

"We've had some good gigs with Tottenham," Marriner said. "Fantastic gigs. But I've got to tell you, there's places, the Grimsbys if you like, and the Birminghams..."

After explaining the toughness of the northerners, he then spoke about whether he had ever got hurt at football. Chuckling, he said: "Yeah, loads of times, yeah. And then you think, well that's the end of that, and next week you are back in the swindle aren't you."

Then, expanding on the "hairiest moments" as a football hooligan, he mentioned one game in particular. The year was 1994 and Chelsea beat Sheffield United in the final game of the league season which relegated the Yorkshire team.

And Marriner said: "We were in a place called Berlins in Sheffield and it was a big place. If I tell you there was 70 80 of us, there was. A lot of our lot were up the back.

"I've come to the bar, geezer's half recognised me from away games, knew I was Chelsea straight away, said something to me, and I said 'f*** off, who are you ya'. Next thing you know it's off, bang bang bang we are off.

"Bottled me, stuck the bottle on me eyebrow, that's opened up, boom boom boom, all of a sudden the squirmish, they've all come down (Chelsea fans) and it has gone ballistic. Doorman don't want to know, we are sent out, they (Sheffield United fans) are all outside.

"We've put their beloved team down ain't we. In the middle of the road they have fences, but was like sort of bushes over the fence, they are coming out of the bushes and all sorts, if it is in the middle of the road.

"My pal from Sheffield, who is Wednesday (Sheffield Wednesday fan), used to come to Chelsea, the dog has bit him on the thing (points to side) and I mean it has gone ballistic, absolutely. "

When questioned whether the football violence ever became excessive, he explained there existed an unwritten rule among hooligans that you wouldn't kick someone's head once they'd hit the ground. Instead, you might "half give them a squeeze".

He recalled experiencing such a terrifying incident during a trip to West Ham United. He disclosed: "I remember being chased at West Ham once, I don't mind (admitting it).

"It was a night game, pitch black, it is dark, bang, kicked the back off me feet. I am tripped over ain't I. I have curled up in a ball. I thought I was very lucky because where they have let's say half a dozen, they are kicking the granny out of me, if it had been or two of them, I would have got hurt.

"But because there are half a dozen, they are all fighting each other to get at me."

He then explained the "code of conduct" stopped him from suffering serious harm.

Marriner also revealed he's grown wiser with years, and holds no prejudice regarding colour, race, religion or which football team you follow, provided you possess morals and show respect.

He even recognised they were "all the same" and "just support a different club" and he added: "I mean, I've got some fantastic Tottenham pals."

Hackers are cracking mobile browsers to bypass security - here's how they do it and how to stay safe

There is a growing trend in client-side attacks, as cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting mobile browsers to bypass traditional security controls.

This is according to the latest “Client-Side Attack Report Q2 2025”, published by security researchers c/side. A “client-side” attack is a type of security breach that occurs on the user’s device (typically on their browser or mobile app), rather than on the server.

Based on extensive research of the market (compromised domains, autonomous crawling, AI-driven script analysis, and behavioral review of third-party JavaScript dependencies), the report says cybercriminals are injecting malicious code into service workers and the Progressive Web App (PWA) logic of popular WordPress themes.

Weaker sandboxing

Once a mobile user visits an infected site, the browser viewport is hijacked using a full-screen iframe. The victim is then lured into installing a fake PWA, often disguised as an adult-themed APK or a crypto app, hosted on rotating subdomains.

Primarily, the apps are designed to persist on the device beyond the browser session and act as a long-term foothold. However, they can also steal login credentials (by spoofing login pages or browser prompts), intercept cryptocurrency wallet interactions, and drain assets by injecting malicious scripts. In some cases, the apps can hijack session tokens, as well.

The criminals are using different techniques to evade detection, including fingerprinting and cloaking techniques that prevent the payload from being triggered in sandboxed environments, or by automated scanners.

The mobile platform is being increasingly targeted because web browsers have weaker sandboxing and limited runtime visibility, which makes them more vulnerable and susceptible to attacks. At the same time, c/side says users are more likely to trust full-screen prompts, or install suggested apps, without suspecting anything.

To mitigate the risk, there are things both developers and end-users can do, c/side says. Devs and site operators should monitor and secure third-party scripts, since these are a common delivery mechanism for malicious payloads. C/side also advocates for real-time visibility into what scripts are executing in the browser, rather than relying solely on server-side protections.

Users, on the other hand, should be careful when installing Progressive Web Apps from unfamiliar sources, and should be skeptical of unexpected login flows, particularly those that seem to come from Google

Son Heung-min makes frank admission over record-breaking MLS move

Son Heung-min has completed a record-breaking transfer to Los Angeles FC, admitting the Major League Soccer club was not his initial preferred destination despite their successful persuasion.

The 33-year-old's move, valued at over £20million, marks the highest transfer fee ever paid by an MLS club.

This follows his departure from Tottenham Hotspur, announced on Saturday, after a decade with the North London side.

During his 10-year tenure, Son scored 173 goals in 454 appearances, and recently captained the club to Europa League glory.

Speaking at his introductory press conference in Los Angeles, the South Korea international confessed that LAFC had "changed his heart" regarding the move to the United States, where he has signed an initial two-year deal.

The South Korea national team captain also admitted he "had to be persuaded of the merits" of the transfer.

“They’ve been absolutely working so hard to get me here to join LAFC,” Son said.

“If I’m honest it was not my first choice but John (Thorrington, LAFC general manager) was the first call when the season finished and John changed my mind, he changed my heart.

“I’m so happy to see all the Korean fans, I was at the game and I saw you supporting like crazy and I wanted to run on the pitch and show my performance. I’m here to win and I will perform.

I will definitely show you something exciting in… are we calling it football or soccer? I will definitely show you some exciting football and we will have success.”

Son added that the decision to leave Spurs had left him feeling “very empty”.

“I felt like I gave it all, but I felt like I needed a new chapter and new challenge and I chose LAFC. I’m old but I still have good physicality, good legs and I still have good quality.”

Earlier Son had issued a heartfelt message to Tottenham fans on making the “hardest decision ever” to leave north London.

“How to find the right words for this? I don’t know. I have been thinking for days. It’s impossible. But here I go,” Son wrote.

“It’s time for me to say goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur. My home for the past decade.

“When I arrived in 2015, I didn’t speak English, I didn’t know London, but you welcomed me with open arms, believed in me, and stood by me through every high and low.

“I was just a boy from Korea with big dreams who was supposed to have no chance. And now, 10 years later, North London is in my heart forever.

“I’ve made friends for life here, had the honour of becoming a godfather here, and had the privilege of captaining our special club here. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this club, which makes this the hardest decision ever.

“I thought if I was ever going to leave, it would have to be on my terms, on the best terms, when our mission had been accomplished together. With pride and honour.”

Son joined Spurs in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen.

Alongside old partner in crime Harry Kane, Son holds the record for the most goal involvements by a duo in the Premier League, with the pair assisting each other on a record 47 occasions in the competition.

Son’s performance helped turn Tottenham into title contenders when they finished second in the Premier League under Mauricio Pochettino in 2017, finishing as runners-up in the Champions League two years later.

After Kane left for Bayern Munich, Son became Spurs captain under Ange Postecoglou, lifting the Europa League trophy in May – having come off the bench in the final against Manchester United, a 1-0 Spurs win, after an injury-affected campaign.

US demands for Hezbollah disarmament may force Lebanon into dangerous choice

Under mounting US pressure, Lebanon’s government is being forced into a dangerous choice. Does it want to fight a war with Israel or does it want to fight a war at home, with Hezbollah?

In recent weeks, the US has been pushing for the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah. The government had already been moving in that direction, but not at the pace the US wanted. Lebanese media began to fill with warnings from unnamed sources that if Hezbollah’s arms were not confiscated soon, a second war with Israel could be on the horizon.

On Tuesday, the Lebanese government acquiesced and announced the Lebanese army would draw up a plan to place arms exclusively within the hands of the state by year’s end. Hezbollah and its political ally Amal announced the next day that they would “treat the decision as if it did not exist” and accused the government of serving US diktats.

US pressure for faster disarmament has laid the seeds for a scenario the Lebanese government has taken pains to avoid: a confrontation with Hezbollah. If cornered, the group could resort to force to defend its arsenal.

Lebanon’s current government was born after the latest Hezbollah-Israel war, with the US as its midwife. A battered Hezbollah could no longer maintain its side of a stalemate that had left Lebanon without a president for two years, and Joseph Aoun, the former army chief, was elected amid heavy US pressure.

The election of Aoun, who included in his mandate restoring the state’s monopoly on violence, was an extraordinary sign of how much Lebanon, and the region, had changed in the past year.

Hezbollah had dominated Lebanon for two decades. What had started as a resistance group described as a “state within a state” had transformed into a party controlling the state, setting much of Lebanon’s domestic and foreign policy.

It was only after a devastating war with Israel, which saw virtually all of its top leadership killed, thousands of fighters dead or wounded and a large portion of its weapons destroyed, that Hezbollah’s grip on the country was loosened. The toppling of the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, in December was another blow to the group, which had used Syria as its main supply route from Iran.

The new Lebanese government, however, was careful not to gloat. It took pains not to publish videos of soldiers confiscating Hezbollah weapons caches in south Lebanon. Too aggressive an approach to Hezbollah could provoke a confrontation and alienate the group’s base of mostly Shia Muslims.

First and foremost was to engage in state-building so that former members of Hezbollah and its popular base felt included in Lebanon’s national project, rather than under siege.

Officials were aware that the same conditions which gave rise to Hezbollah in the 1980s are still present today. Similar to 45 years ago, Israel occupies parts of southern Lebanon and the country’s Shia population, which bore the brunt of Lebanon’s war, are impoverished and do not feel represented by the state.

The US views the gradual pace that the state has set as stalling, however.

On the Lebanese side, officials have privately complained that the Americans seem unconcerned with building a strong Lebanese state. Instead, the US wanted immediate results on disarmament, putting the new government’s state-building project at risk.

“This process is very dangerous the way it is unfolding. It will actually consolidate and push potentially even wider sectors of the Shia portion of Lebanese society behind Amal and Hezbollah rather than to national consolidation,” said Joseph Daher, the author of Hezbollah: the Political Economy of the Party of God.

Near-daily Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, in violation of the November ceasefire, have also undermined the Lebanese government’s claims that only the state can protect sovereignty.

The day after Lebanon announced it would draft a plan to disarm Hezbollah, an 11-year-old child was killed by an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon.

The Lebanese army has not responded to any of the thousands of Israeli airstrikes on the country since November – nor does anyone expect it to. The under-equipped, under-staffed army can do little in the face of an Israeli military equipped with US fighter jets, which drop the latest US munitions by the thousand.

There is little appetite among the international community to help the Lebanese army become a proper fighting force. Requests by army leadership to install low-tech watchtowers on its border with Israel have been rejected.

Without the means to do so, asking the Lebanese army to enforce the disarmament of Hezbollah is a tall order. “How can you ask the LAF to do to Hezbollah what Israel couldn’t do to Hamas in a smaller space, with warplanes?” said a senior diplomat in Beirut.

Nonetheless, international pressure to disarm Hezbollah is likely to increase, not abate. Opinion among international powers on the question of the Lebanese state’s monopoly on arms was uniform.

“The US, Saudi and EU are in agreement on this point: the question is no longer if Hezbollah should be disarmed, but how to do it,” the diplomat said.

Chelsea to sell £53m duo to Premier League rivals

Chelsea are on the verge of selling off two midfielders, who cost the club a combined £53million, to Premier League rivals.

Enzo Maresca has been very busy this summer transfer window, splashing over £243m on eight new players, with Jorrel Hato the latest name through the door.

There could be yet more incomings with the club working on a deal for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, while they maintain an interest in Manchester United wantaway Alejandro Garnacho.

But the Blues still need to offload several stars who have no future at the club, following on from the sales of Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Djordje Petrovic.

Additionally, striker Armando Broja and defender Bashir Humphreys have left to join Burnley and it seems the Turf Moor club are not done raiding Stamford Bridge yet.

The Athletic report that the Clarets have reached an agreement to sign Lesley Ugochukwu, just two years after the defensive midfielder moved to Chelsea for over £23m.

Ugochukwu made just 12 Premier League appearances in his debut season, only three of which were starts, and was loaned out to Southampton last year.

The 21-year-old was a shining light in the relegated team but deemed surplus to requirements by Maresca despite having five years left on his contract.

And he won’t be the only midfielder leaving west London this summer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Everton have agreed a deal to sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The 26-year-old followed Maresca from Leicester to Chelsea last summer but was almost immediately linked with a transfer after struggling for game time at the Bridge.

While he helped win the Conference League and Club World Cup, the £30m signing was handed just two Premier League starts and has been the subject of interest from multiple top-flight teams.

Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel recently urged Dewsbury-Hall to find a new team this summer, saying: ‘He did well in the Championship with Leicester, but this is Chelsea Football Club.

‘He needs to go somewhere he can play and improve. Is he a good player? Yes. Is he a Chelsea player? Definitely not.’

Everton’s offer is for an initial £25m, plus £4m in add-ons, but it is said the deal is not related to their pursuit of Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, with David Moyes keen to sign both Englishmen.

Sky Sports report that the Saints have rejected the Toffees’ second bid for Dibling worth an initial £35m plus £8m.

Israel to grab Gaza: Benjamin Netanyahu orders 'full occupation' of Palestinian territory

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday evening that a decision has been made to fully occupy the Gaza Strip, including operations in areas where hostages are held.

The Chief of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir, received a message from the Prime Minister's Office stating: "If this does not suit him, you should resign."

This announcement comes after months of ceasefire-hostage negotiations between Israel, Hamas, and mediators in Doha.

Netanyahu's command to seize the disputed territory follows a video released by Hamas showing several gaunt hostages claiming they were suffering due to widespread famine.

Hamas has consistently demanded that supplies such as food and water be allowed into the Gaza Strip for the group to return to negotiations.

The Iran-backed militant group has brushed off reports about Israel's intent to conquer Gaza, describing the threats as "repetitive, worthless, and have no influence on our decisions." The statement comes after months of negotiations in Doha involving Hamas, Israel, and mediators aiming for a ceasefire-hostage agreement.

The group has insisted that hundreds of trucks of aid must be allowed into the Gaza Strip before it will return to talks, despite growing international efforts to deliver supplies to Palestinians in ways that bypass Hamas' control.

Over the weekend, Hamas released videos showing visibly emaciated hostages and claimed they were starving due to widespread famine in Gaza.

This afternoon, July 31, the center of Kramatorsk came under hostile Russian attack. A column of smoke rose from the scene after the explosion.

According to preliminary information, a Russian strike targeted a residential building in the center of Kramatorsk.

In response to the attack, Kramatorsk's public transportation operator announced temporary changes to several bus routes:

・Route 11;

"The Russians launched a targeted strike on a 5-story building, and half of the building was completely destroyed. Among the injured, 1 person is in serious condition," Filashkin noted.

According to the Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, all responsible services are currently working at the scene.

Situation in Kramatorsk direction

In recent days, the commander of a drone battalion from Ukraine's 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Konstantin Ostrozky, Mykhailo Trach, described how Russian assault troops have attempted to breach Ukrainian positions using motorcycles and even disguises resembling dog suits.

Earlier this month, a Russian guided bomb struck a residential multi-story building in the city, killing a child and injuring five people.

Just over a week ago, on July 22, Russian forces launched seven shells at Kramatorsk, hitting both industrial zones and residential areas.

Before that, the city came under fire twice more, with private homes targeted and civilians wounded.

Xabi Alonso ‘wants’ Real Madrid to ‘sign’ £70m Man Utd star – report

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso wants to sign Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United as well as Crystal Palace’s top midfielder, according to a Spanish report, as the chances of the England international leaving Old Trafford for the Santiago Bernabeu also come to light.

Madrid and Man Utd are two of the biggest clubs in the world, and both have been very active in the summer transfer window. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon are three major signings for Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim so far, while Madrid boss Alonso will have Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alvaro Carreras, Dean Huijsen and Franco Mastantuono in his squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

Los Blancos are also on the hunt for a new centre-back, with Alonso keen on Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate and Arsenal ace William Saliba.

Madrid are also reported to be willing to raid another Premier League club, Man Utd, to sign one of their gems.

According to Defensa Central, Man Utd and England international midfielder Mainoo is very highly appreciated by Madrid, while Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace is also on their radar.

The report in the headline notes that ‘Xabi Alonso wants to sign Wharton and Mainoo’.

Alonso reportedly wants to sign a long-term Toni Kroos replacement, and while Arda Guler is a viable option in that role, the 20-year-old Turkey international midfielder needs back-up.

While Madrid appreciate Mainoo and Palace and England international midfielder Wharton, president Florentino Perez is ‘somewhat reluctant’ to make the move for either player this summer.

The Madrid recruitment team does not think that Wharton and Mainoo have done enough ‘to integrate into the orbit of Europe’s football elite’, but the Spanish and European giants will intensify their scouting of the two English players.

This is not the first time that Mainoo or Wharton has been linked with Madrid.

A Spanish report in March reported Madrid’s interest in Mainoo, claiming that the Spanish giants’ chief scout, Juni Calafat, has the Man Utd midfielder on his radar, but the club understand that signing him in the summer transfer window will be ‘difficult’.

The Daily Mail also reported in March that Madrid have been impressed with Wharton after Calafat sent his staff to monitor the Palace star.

Man Utd stance on Kobbie Mainoo future

Even if Madrid accept Alonso’s request and make a move for Mainoo in the summer transfer window, it is unlikely that Man Utd will sell him.

Back in March, The Guardian reported that Mainoo was planning to reject the offer of a new contract by Man Utd.

It was reported at the time that the Premier League club were open to selling the 20-year-old England international midfielder and valued him at £70million.

However, reports this week suggest that Man Utd have decided to keep Mainoo and allow him to grow and progress under Amorim.

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry about Mainoo, but Man Utd have made it clear that they want the 20-year-old England international to stay.

Latest Real Madrid news: Andriy Lunin offer, Barcelona worried.

Madrid have responded to Newcastle United’s offer for Andriy Lunin, with the Premier League club keen on a loan deal for the Ukraine international goalkeeper.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is worried that Madrid will come for a star defender and wants to sell him to Liverpool instead, according to a stunning Spanish report.

Madrid and Brazil international forward Rodrygo has made his ‘preference’ clear over his next club, as Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur compete with each other for the star.
